The Guam International Airport Authority’s taxiway and aircraft apron are the first spots for adventurers whenever they arrive on island and for residents making their return.

Now, thanks to an over $41.7 million investment, some much-needed rehabilitation is underway.

Local and federal government officials joined the Guam airport community as they broke ground on the project today.

It's an undertaking encompassing upgrades on utilities, drainage, correction on slopes, and pavement restoration.

J.Q. Quinata, Airport Executive Manager, said monies for the improvements come from discretionary funds from the Federal Aviation Administration, a highly competitive arena.

“The FAA support of Guam’s airport and all the airports in our Micronesia region has been vital to our economic development growth–vital, to our very existence as aerodromes serving our respective islands and regional communities,” said Quinata.

This undertaking is just one of many capital improvement projects on the horizon for the airport.
