The Guam Department of Education Superintendent Dr. Erik Swanson, has officially announced the appointment of Dr. Barbara Adamos as the Acting Deputy Superintendent for Educational Support and Community Learning.

Her appointment took effect on March 11, 2024, marking a significant step in the department's commitment to enhancing educational support and community engagement.

As the principal of John F. Kennedy High School (JFKHS) from 2012 to 2024, she demonstrated exceptional guidance before her appointment as Deputy Superintendent. Dr. Adamos holds a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education: Language Arts and a Master of Education in English from the University of Guam.

Her academic journey culminated in earning a Doctor of Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Higher Education from Argosy University in Hawaii in 2009.

As Deputy Superintendent, she plays a crucial role in guiding and supervising the educational initiatives within the GDOE's feeder school system.

Her primary responsibility is to ensure that these programs not only meet but also surpass quality standards, aligning with the GDOE's strategic vision and mission. In collaboration with school principals, she is in charged with developing and implementing educational strategies that support the GDOE's broad goals and objectives.

She undertakes professional administrative work in managing the education programs of the GDOE. She oversees, plans, directs, coordinates, and implements instructional programs in the elementary and secondary feeder school systems, reporting directly to Superintendent Swanson.

Swanson expressed confidence in Dr. Adamos, highlighting her dedication and passion for delivering high-quality education to the future leaders of our island. Her extensive knowledge and commitment to achieving higher standards for students are admirable.

Adamos is focused on strengthening school leadership throughout the district, supporting effective teaching and instruction, improving organizational efficiency, and establishing a comprehensive system of accountability that extends from the highest to the lowest levels.
