Guam, where America's day begins. On Tuesday, it's where picketing began for United Airlines flight attendants.

“Stand up! Fight back! Our contract is under attack,” was the rallying cry at the AB Won Pat International Airport where flight attendants kicked off Worldwide Day of Action to demand better pay and working conditions.

Rsei Isim, the local union president with the Association of Flight Attendants, told KUAM News United’s flight attendants have been working without a contract for the past two and a half years and some without a raise for five years.

“We were hoping to get a contract done as soon as possible, but as of late we haven’t had any progress. So we did file for [federal] remediation to get this contract in months and not years like what has been happening for the last two and a half years,” Isim said.

These flight attendants were sending the message loud and clear, holding signs that read ‘pay us or chaos’ or ‘corporate greed doesn’t fly.’

“Who’s got the power? We got the power. What kind of power? Union power,” flight attendants, pilots and other allies shouted in unison.

The demonstrations will continue across the world.

The union says in a historic first, 100,000 flight attendants from 24 airlines in contract negotiations will join the picket line at 30 airports across the globe, ending in Hawaii tomorrow.

“Give us the contract that we surely deserve. Give us an industry leading contract for our flight attendants who are here helping the company make billions of dollars and here we are still waiting for a contract for two and a half years,” Isim said.

He says these flight attendants hope it won’t take a union strike for United management to meet their contract demands.
