UOG breaks ground on $7.9 million School of Engineering building

The University of Guam has some exciting new things coming. The campus earlier this month broke ground on a $7.9 million project: the first School of Engineering building.

The university said this comes at a time when enrollment is up among aspiring engineers and as the island experiences a construction boom.

The 16, 500 foot construction project was delayed for several years due to funding.

The UOG Endowment Foundation and the USDA Rural Development worked out a financing mechanism to help the project get the funding it needs to meet the higher construction cost.

UOG president Dr. Anita Borja Enriquez shared, “It really took a community effort. It really took a village to make all of this come to fruition and with the anticipated actual hitting of the shovel. I also want to acknowledge our partners in terms of building the professional workforce for our island and our region. Without them it would be very difficult to make the case.”

UOG noted the School of Engineering has more than 170 students.

The project was designed by Rim Architects. The construction contractor, Future World Corp., aims to have it built by March 2025.
