Man accused of stealing school van says he was trying to keep it safe

A man was arrested and accused of stealing a van from a local elementary school.

Forty-one-year-old Warren Quinata is charged with theft of a motor vehicle and theft of property.

Police responded to Wettengel Elementary in Dededo on Friday after the van went missing.

The driver told police they were preparing food for the students at the time. 

Court documents state the stolen vehicle was later found in the village.

Multiple insulated coolers worth hundreds of dollars were reported missing and the front passenger window had been shattered.

Quinata allegedly admitted to police he took the van in order to keep it safe, adding that he was going to call police but forgot claiming he got too busy.
