Governor stresses need for H-2 workers

Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero is in the Philippines, where she met with U.S. Embassy officials and representatives from the Defense and Commerce departments.
They discussed the critical importance of Philippine H-2 workers to the military buildup and civilian projects in Guam.
In a news release the governor as said, "Without these skilled workers from the Philippines supplementing our local workforce, we will not be able to fully realize Guam’s economic potential.”

She also lobbied for a Guam visa waiver that will allow Filipinos to enter Guam without a pre-approved U.S. visa
The governor also met with the head of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration which monitors and supervises overseas recruitment and manning agencies in the Philippines. She asked that a Labor Attache' be stationed in Guam, and a country-specific employment contract be developed to protect migrant workers.
