They offer a hand to anyone in need of help, no matter who they are and where they come from. And under new leadership, the Salvation Army Guam's new captains are hitting the ground running seeking donations for the island's most needy. Originally from Sinaloa, Mexico, Capts. Hector and Yasmin Acosta have served in many large cities stateside including Los Angeles, Phoenix and Seattle.

"We have found there are more of us that can help than we realize," Yasmin Acosta said. "Most people are in a place where you can be of assistance to your neighbor. Whether it be with a phone call to a wellness check or help with groceries and so if you have time in hands we could always use your help. If you have resources in your hands that you would like to help with, that’s also needed. If you don’t have time or resources, if you have a couple bucks that you would like to drop off, you could come by the food pantry, we’re here 9 through 3:30 p.m."

"If anybody is interested in helping us get acclimatized and get acquainted with the community, we would like to have coffee or maybe a meal or something," Hector Acosta said. "If you want to share with us about the community, share with us some of the needs you’re experiencing or an idea about a way we can meet and greet and we’d love to hear that."

The Salvation Army only asks that the things you are willing to donate are still in good condition for clothes and other items. As for food donations, they ask that it is not expired or close to expiring.

Should you have any items you’re willing to give to the salvation army you can call (671) 477-9855 or 888-4807 to schedule a pickup or dropoff donation at their food pantry in Tiyan, Barrigada.
