Couches, paint, plumbing items among trash found at cemetery illegal dump site

It was an event to clean up one of the island’s oldest cemeteries, and according to the Department of Parks and Recreation, it went well. On June 11, the Guam Coral Reef Initiative partnered with the agency to clean up the illegal trash and other debris dumped at the Vicente A. Limtiaco Memorial Cemetery in Piti.
DPR Director Roque Alcantara told KUAM News, "I can’t believe what we found. We found couches, we found stoves, plumbing stuff and everything. Even paint, someone just dumping it all over the place. So what we did was a massive clean-up. Went all the way down from the top, all the way down to the bottom where a lot of the illegal dumping is being done."
More than 150 people showed up to clean the Limtiaco Memorial Cemetery, including some members from the military and the Bureau of Statistics & Plans.

"So there was a lot of interest and a lot of them were also there because their families are buried there and they wanted to help clean the cemetery also," Alcantara said.
After two weeks or so, Alcantara shared that DPR will check around the cemetery to see if any more illegal dumping is taking place. He also had a message for residents who constantly dump their trash anywhere around the island, saying, "Please just put it in a trash bag. We’ll come around and pick it up."
He added, "If you guys want to bring it down here to Paseo parking lot, we can pick it up there. But don’t just, especially at the cemeteries. Let’s not do it again."
