Upcoming job fair at UOG features broad spectrum of island employers

The University of Guam will be hosting a job fair in a couple of weeks, so polish up your resumes (and shoes) and, get your best island professional attire on an get ready to impress!
A broad range of industries wll be represented on April 27 from 9am-2pm, from food services to lodging, from financial services to shipbuilding, and education and engineering. Opportunity is calling, so how will you respond?
"Their resume should really emphasize their skill set," offered Sallie McDonald, a success advisor with UOG. "It's not about 'Oh, I worked here and this is what I did', it's more about 'I worked here and I accomplished these things, and this is why I stand out over someone else'. And we call it a functional resume because it really showcases all of your skill sets and all of the things that you've done, rather than just a chronological list of all the places you've worked."
McDonald says this not only represents a huge opportunity for those looking to break into the job market, but for those looking to move laterally in the middle of their careers, and for those students looking to land a valuable internship and get a leg up on the competition when they're ready to become part of the island workforce.
She also shared some pro tips on how to best impress when you meet with a hiring manager, by branding yourself – and a cautionary tale about taking preparation too lightly. "Fail to plan, plan to fail," she warned. "So you really need to practice and rehearse so you can execute when you come to the job fair."
