Go, Bulldogs! Okkodo is first Guam high school to hold Grad-N-Go ceremony

The first public high school class of 2020 crossed the stage with their caps and gowns on this morning. Loved ones showed their support from their cars, and KUAM drove by Okkodo High school's Grad-N-Go ceremony to join the celebration.
Turning their tassels, with a high school diploma in hand, dressed in cardinal red with their face masks...Okkodo Bulldogs fight on.
Julian Alvarez described an inspirational message he wore, saying, "It says I can do all things through Christ." He added, "Okkodo High School seniors are doing all things, and this morning that was showcased through the Guam Department of Education's Grad-N-Go commencement ceremonies.
Another graduating senior, Jaylene San Nicolas, "It feels exciting, but it's so different because it's not really traditional. But I am just happy that I got to walk despite the circumstances that we are in."
Classmate Mark Valerio added, "I am just very excited for this, you know after all this quarantine and school ending and I am glad we had this," with new-alum Christian Perez adding, "I am very excited and I can't wait to start working and start my future."
Sharing feelings of excitement as one month ago a ceremony was unforeseeable with the pandemic closing school doors early without a goodbye, however GDOE brought the challenge forward to the students. And that challenge was accepted, and accomplished with this creative drive through celebration.
Alvarez told KUAM News, "I feel really grateful to have this opportunity to do so, and I am so grateful for my class who pulled this whole thing."
As students crossed the stage, families were able to drive alongside, cheer their children on from inside their decorated cars.
Proud parent Elwin Catano said, "It's great at least there's a graduation and we have some memories, a great accomplishment for my son and it's important that we be here."
The Bulldogs were the first school to host the Grad-N-Go ceremony, with more commencements scheduled throughout the month. And before entering their next life chapter, the seniors say a final farewell.
Darius Palad said, "I just want to say congratulations to my parents and also my friends for encouraging me throughout high school with all the great memories and all the fun stuff and experiences."
On behalf of KUAM, congratulations to all graduating seniors, we wish you a bright and prosperous future.
