Suspect in high-speed chase sought by police
Police spokesperson Paul Tapao says the suspect involved in a high-speed chase on Wednesday night got away.
As we reported the hot pursuit ended with a man driving through the front gate of Andersen Air Force Base, crashing, and then fleeing on foot.
Tapao says just before 8 o’clock on Wednesday night police were responding to a report of a home invasion along Ypao Road.
He says when officers were leaving the house they saw the suspect’s vehicle and a pursuit ensued from Tamuning to Andersen.
A witness told KUAM she saw a man driving a silver SUV drive through the gate, crash and then jump out and run into the woods. Andersen Air Force Base Public Affairs Office says the base was placed on lockdown as a safety precaution. The lockdown was lifted at around 10:00pm.
Tapao tells KUAM that the suspect jumped from military property back to civilian property and got away. He adds the case was forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Division and remains open.
