Governor: congressman should focus efforts on federal issues
Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero is calling out Congressman Michael San Nicolas. She's not pleased one bit about his plans to amend the Organic Act.
The congressman, who refuses to speak with KUAM, posted on Facebook that his office is currently drafting legislation to make it organic that any tax increases require a referendum.
And although it's already existing local law, San Nicolas says "politicians never follow it."
The island's maga'haga says his proposal clearly undermines our authority to decide how we govern ourselves and isn't just about tax policy.
"As Guam's delegate, his efforts would be better spent pursuing legislation for federal approval of our CHamoru Land Trust program, fighting for a self-determination vote, pushing for better access to care for our veterans, and strengthening our ability to govern ourselves," Leon Guerrero said.
