Guam to be included in updated radiation act

Posted: Updated:

The new version of the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act of 2019, will include Guam. Robert Celestial with the Pacific Association for Radiation Survivors says the Senate bill will extend compensation to Guam residents exposed to radiation during U.S. nuclear testing from 1946 to 1962.

Celestial has testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee and has been fighting since 2002 to have Guam included.

Under RECA, claimants can be entitled to free medical care, and $150,000 compensation for certain illnesses.
