Holiday Crisis Hotline helps those with Holiday Blues
If you are feeling the holiday blues, help is a phone call away.

Guam - The holiday season is a time for joy and elation but it can also be a time of depression and if you are feeling the holiday blues help is a phone call away.
"As you know Christmas is time of elation and rejoicing but there is a small percentage out there were it becomes a really rough time and depression sets in the holiday blues sets in and sometimes it can be detrimental to their well-being if it is not taken cared of," said Peter Cruz.
During the holidays the holiday blues can be brought on by a number of things from memories to the stress created by family and the expectations of what Christmas should be. The feeling can be overwhelming and at times a person with the holiday blues may feel isolated and hopeless but it is important to remember that you are not alone and help is a phone call away.
Cruz, the Holiday Crisis Hotline coordinator, told KUAM News, "And just for somebody to come in or call us and we have an opening ear and we can give referrals to better assist them."
The Holiday Crisis Hotline is open 24 hours a day and can be reached at 647-8833. "They should call in as soon as they start feeling because the last thing they want to do is get to a point where they think of bodily injury," said Cruz.
In addition to the Holiday Hotline there are a few things that can be done to help physically, mentally, and spiritually the minute you find yourself feeling blue. First is to change your posture often times when a person is down their posture is hunched sitting up straight helps your breathing. You can also change your surroundings instead of isolating yourself get out experience the fresh air or surround yourself with those that typically bring joy in your life. Secondly, if your thoughts are the root of your blues instead of focusing on what you don't have focus on the positive. And finally uplift your spirits by visiting your church or pastor. This is a person you can also confide in. If the holiday blues gets you down. Remember it shall pass and usually subsides once the season is over. But please no matter how bad things may look at the moment never harm yourself...instead pick up your phone and call 647-8833. Someone will be there to help you through it.
