Health insurance open enrollment period begins for GovGuam
GUAM - Open enrollment has begun for over 11,000 Government of Guam employees, retirees and survivor for health insurance for the next fiscal year.
Department of Administration Director Benita Manglona says GovGuam employees and retirees can now elect up to three health insurance carriers for the FY2014 group health insurance open enrollment period.
"There have been many employees that have been asking for choices and we have successfully negotiated with three insurance carriers, and while the rates are down, the benefits have increased and we're very happy that the negotiating team successfully negotiated a lot of good benefits that the employees and the retirees have been asking for" DOA Director Benita Manglona said.
The insurance providers available are SelectCare, TakeCare, and Staywell. Subscribers may elect to enroll in either the health savings account 2000 or 1500 deductible plans under these carriers. The open enrollment period is an opportunity to enroll for coverage or to cancel or add eligible dependents. Open enrollment started yesterday and continues until September 28. Benefits, deductibles and rates will be effective October 1. Manglona adds insurance carriers are making presentations at the various departments and agencies this and next week. Additionally, outreaches will be held this weekend September 21 at the Agana Shopping Center and Micronesia Mall from 10am to 3pm.
