GOP senators meet with Calvo
Guam - It took two hours to pass and almost two days to get to Adelup. KUAM News has confirmed that just before 3pm Thursday the newest version of the Fiscal Year 2014 budget was officially transmitted to the Governor's Office. Governor Eddie Calvo has made it clear that he will veto the bill, submit another budget to senators and then call them into special session.
The new budget bill, which passed straight down party lines, calls for the full implementation of hay pay raises and full restoration of cola for retirees. The governor however says there's simply not enough money to do that, and instead his new bill will include a phased approach for the hay raises and an annual COLA of $1,500.
The governor was meeting with Republican senators late this afternoon. The Republican minority voted against the new budget and has offered to work with the governor on an alternative bill.
No word when he will be vetoing the bill.
