Guam - Good news about Guam's amazing and talented children. After months of preparation and hours in the kitchen, Guam's ProStart Team came out on top. This morning, or Sunday East Coast time, the 4-member Simon Sanchez High School team coached by Vicky Schrage and Chef Peter Duenas bested 42 teams from across the nation in the ProStart Invitational held in Baltimore, Maryland.

Duenas says Guam's team displayed not only cooking skills and recipe building, but excelled in knife skills, pricing, visual presentation, and cleanliness. He said, "I think this is a great avenue for students it's a vehicle to show them the industry from a good perspective of what chefs do and it gives them an opportunity to explore this field. With the NRA and ProStart and what we're doing at Guam Community College is we're trying to grow chefs future chefs, especially future local chefs on Guam. And so this is the perfect vehicle for the local students to experience the culinary world."

The team is comprised of Macdaniel Dimla, Airen Magday, Angellica Sia, and Leyann Lusung.

Aside from gold medals, members were awarded educational scholarships to prestigious culinary programs and a trip to the National Restaurant Association show held in Chicago next month.

The guam team is homebound April 24.
