Guam - Another settlement conference was supposed to be held in the District Court today as the Government of Guam looks to negotiate a compromise with Dennis and Asuncion Rodriguez. The couple allegedly failed to pay more than $970,000 in taxes over a five-year period and the government was going after the taxes with interest and penalties totaling $1.7 million as well as foreclosure on the couple's property.

The Attorney General's Office had entered into settlement discussions but withdrew from the case after the Governor's Office became involved in the talks. The AG's Office disagreed with what Adelup had proposed believing it wasn't in the best interest of the public to only get a fraction of the tax debt.

The parties were supposed to meet again today but agreed to continue the matter for 60 days to allow the governor to find a new legal counsel and allow them time to get up to speed on the case.
