Guam - The deadline is just weeks away and the Department of Education is hustling to obligate the remaining funds from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act. According to DOE superintendent Jon Fernandez, it's the home stretch as DOE and Governor Eddie Calvo are working to push the remaining contracts for capital improvement projects.

"I think it's important for me as I said to have that deadline so we can continue to have that sense of urgency to get the work done but I think in our conversations we recognize that there are a couple of contracts out there that will probably need to get extended just because of the procurement process or just getting the work done right," he said.

The ARRA deadline is September 30. This would be the second request for a deadline extension from DOE.
