Tenorio fires back at Respicio
Guam - Acting Governor Ray Tenorio delivered a special address, taking aim at recent concerns raised by Majority Leader Rory Respicio regarding the formation of a group by local businessmen called the U.S. Asia Security Alliance. The group has hired a Washington lobbyist to advocate for the territory.
Respicio said island residents should be concerned about the organization's efforts and believes the group should engage the Guam First Commission so that Guam speaks with one voice in the nation's capitol especially when it comes to the military buildup.
The Calvo Administration believes Respicio is trying to block the group's freedom of speech.
Respicio fired back, saying, "This is not an issue of the first amendment but rather a missed opportunity by Governor Calvo to invite GUASA and other members to work with the Guam First Commission so we can have a One Guam approach. So the governor is extremely dramatic and its unfortunate that they took my comments out of context for purely political purposes. I remind our community that this is an election year and the republicans will do whatever means necessary to win the election given if it means taking my comments out of context."
