Guam - With Governor Eddie Calvo's directive to cut $43 million within the next few months, discussions continue in the event there are layoffs. The Displacement, Education and Training Committee of the Governor's Spending Cuts Task Force continues to meet should those initiatives be implemented.

Agency for Human Resources Development director and committee co-chair Alfredo Antolin says the challenge is waiting on just how many, if any, will be displaced or laid-off. "We have to be unique in how we work this out," he warned. "Our committee...has to wait on what's the outcome of the overall task force and then we'll know what to do next."

The committee - which consists of members from AHRD, the Guam Chamber of Commerce, the Department of Labor, UOG, GCC, and the Department of Administration - continues to discuss the inventory of existing programs and services such as apprenticeships, internships and opportunities for entrepreneurships. They're also identifying ways they can assist in providing training and working with private industries.

The committee needs to provide the Spending Cuts Task Force with recommendations of available programs and services by May 15.
