Guam - It may have taken longer than expected, but the Route 16 intersection's traffic signal, by the National Guard Readiness Center, has been activated. The $1.5 million federally-funded project was awarded to Maeda Pacific in January 2010.

Adjutant General Benny Paulino says with ongoing projects at the Readiness Center, the traffic signal was well worth the investment. "On a drill weekend, you have approximately 1,300, maybe 1,400 soldiers who come in and out of this facility and just having a traffic intersection at least eases my mind in terms of safety."

Paulino adds the Guard is currently expanding its facilities and once those projects are completed, the intersection will be used heavily.
