Guam - The Maritime Administration has given the green light for an environmental assessment to be conducted for the Port Authority of Guam's modernization efforts. Port general manager Pedro Leon Guerrero tells KUAM News that this step forward is significant as it is required before construction can begin. The assessment is expected to take 7 to 9 months.
Meanwhile, the agency is still trying to take a balanced approach regarding several ongoing issues including the wharves, which need a geo-technical and structural review. And as horizon line's last vessel is set to arrive next week, the Port will be meeting with the trucking groups, Port Users Group and Matson Navigation to prepare for the larger combined load as result of Horizon Lines pulling out of Guam.
