Guam - Matson's commitment to the territory and the impact of Horizon Lines' departure from the shipping industry on Guam is the focus of an informational briefing being held this evening at the Legislature. Senator Tom Ada is the chair of the Committee on Transportation, which has oversight over the Port Authority of Guam, "These are various issues that as the ultimate consumers would like to know and get that reassurance that in fact the necessary mitigating measures are being taken to accommodate now just one ship that will be bringing in all this cargo."

Ada says the exit of a carrier is a significant change and despite Matson announcing it will be able to fill the void, inevitably there will be impacts to the port's operations. He's calling for the information briefing to hear from the agency on what exactly those impacts may be.
