Bordallo "disappointed" with service discontinuation
by Mindy Aguon
Guam - With the news that Horizon Lines would discontinue service to Guam, Matson Navigation Company has provided reassurances that it remains committed to the island and will do its best to fill the void. Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo was told that Guam customers would not experience any disruptions in service during a discussion with Matson's president, Matthew Cox.
Bordallo says the discontinuation of services by Horizon comes at a time when "our economy can least afford it", adding, "this announcement by Horizon is an unintended consequence of delaying the military buildup on Guam.
The congresswoman stressed that cuts to military construction and Senate provisions have created significant uncertainty for businesses and investors and the loss of jobs in our community. Bordallo remains committed to working with the Department of Defense to ensure the buildup progresses in a timely manner.
