Guam - A Navy air wing that was relocated to Guam last month from Atsugi Air Base in Japan began returning home this week. Hundreds of sailors were sent to the island to make room for US military relief operations in Japan following last month's earthquake and tsunami.
Stars and Stripes reports that the personnel of the Carrier Air Wing 5, which is attached to the USS George Washington, should be fully transitioned back to the Naval Air Facility Atsugi by this weekend.
The sailors helped fill vacancies at island hotels that were hit hard by a drop in tourism arrivals from Japan as a result of last month's disasters.
