Governor Reviewing Bill 127
Guam - Governor Eddie Baza Calvo says his Chief Legal Counsel is currently reviewing Bill 127. The legislation was signed into law this morning by lawmakers. It was introduced by Healthcare Committee Chairperson Senator Dennis Rodriguez, Jr. in response to an Attorney General opinion that deemed a nominating council for the Guam Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees is inorganic.
The bill removes that specific provision and maintains the Governor will appoint the GMHA Board with advise and consent of the Legislature. Governor Calvo says he fully intends to sign Bill 127 into law, "We cannot halt progress," stated the island's Chief Executive. He added "I remain committed to the patients at the hospital.
This management team, and the board I have impaneled, will maintain excellence at GMH. They will also restore public confidence in our only civilian hospital. My administration is moving toward safety and care, with no time wasted."
