Guam - The Motorola Atrix 4g is the first of its kind: a multi-use device intended to replace your netbook and possibly more via its webtop environment. Yup, this phone loaded with juicy specs is set to be the cream of the crop when it comes to Android phones.
DOCOMO Pacific product/inventory manager Ron Brewster told KUAM News, "It's like a toolbox it's got your hammer, it's got your drill, it's got your Phillips screwdriver and your standard screwdriver."
Under the Gorilla Glass sits one of the Atrix 4G's key selling points: a 4-inch QHD touchscreen, which is a step up from the current Android phones. Viewing angles on the Atrix are broad and colors are accurate. On the angled top edge there's the 3.5mm headphone port and a power button that doubles as a fingerprint scanner, unlocking the Atrix 4G with a quick swipe. It all adds up to one of the fastest Android handsets.
Another feature the Atrix can brag about is the QHD display. It is obviously great for showing off photos and video, but since the Atrix packs an HDMI output it's easy to hook up a nearby HDTV for direct playback. The phone itself turns in to your remote control for navigating. Very cool.
Brewster says the Atrix also utilizes real Flash, which many phones don't have, saying, "It's the first dual-core processor four phone made and its running Android 2.2, which is really cool, and one of the best features about that it uses real Flash engine so you go onto any site."
This feature allows you to directly watch a video on YouTube where on some phones, you must download an app first. Now, a fair amount of the excitement around the Atrix 4G isn't so much the handset itself, but the accessories Motorola is offering such as the laptop dock, an 11.6-inch ultraportable notebook-style clamshell with a full keyboard, trackpad and integrated battery. Alone it has no intelligence; instead, you have to dock the Atrix 4G into a flip-up cradle at the back, upon which the laptop dock boots into Motorola's webtop system.
Brewster said, "It's the ultimate in communication, even if you had a laptop and your phone you have two devices, even if you have two devices you have two interfaces, but with this device right here, if someone sends you an email with a Powerpoint or an Excel document you can review the document, look at the web and answer your phone all on one screen."
Undeniably, Motorola has put together a solid list of hardware that pushes several of the limits. The phone has it all. So if you want to pick one up for yourself or find out more information about it's accessories, head on over to any of the DOCOMO Pacific locations.
