Guam - Social workers from Hawaii, Palau and Saipan to come together on Guam to network with one another and discuss key issues in their profession during a conference held at the Holiday Resort in Tumon. Ovita Perez, a social worker at the Department of Youth Affairs and president of National Association of Social Workers, says about 125 participants attended this year's conference.

"To meet and collaborate on the issue of social justice social justice is one of our core values and is the value that sets us apart from other professions," she said. The conference began on Wednesday and continues through Friday of this week.

Perez says the gathering allows fellow social workers to find out what is being done in the pacific to advance the social work practice.

Today an award ceremony was held to recognize a non-social worker who is contributing to the community, the Social Worker of the Year and the Social Work Student of the Year.
