Guam - GTA TeleGuam is making a little easier for island residents with family members in Japan to contact their loved ones. The local telecommunications company announced Thursday afternoon it is offering free international long-distance calling and texting from Guam to Japan.
According to a press release, GTA TeleGuam landline and post-paid MPULSE wireless customers will not be charged for international long-distance calls they initiate and text messages they send to their families and friends anywhere in Japan. Post-paid customers are those who receive a regular monthly bill for their wireless services. Charges will be waived until April 11.
"Connecting with families and friends during disasters like we are seeing in Japan is important for our customers," said Andrew Gayle, executive vice president of product development and management for GTA TeleGuam. "We are making it worry free for our customers to stay in touch with their friends and loved ones in Japan."
