Time: 1 hour 35 minutes

Genre: Romance

Starring: Alex Pettyfer, Vanessa Hudgens, Neil Patrick Harris

"Beastly" is the modern re-telling of the classic "Beauty and the Beast" story. In this version, Kyle Kingson (Alex Pettyfer) is a handsome, intelligent and popular teenager in one of New York's richest schools. Kyle believes that beauty is everything and constantly berates "ugly" members of his class. His goth classmate Kendra (Mary Kate Olsen) casts a curse on Kyle that severely disfigures him. The ultimatum, is that he must have someone fall in love with him within a year. If he does, he will get his looks back, but if he doesn't, then he will stay disfigured forever.

Kyle begins to fall for Lindy (Vanessa Hudgens), his former classmate and due to strange circumstances, the two are forced to live together in isolation. Feelings grow between the two and Kyle begins to learn that there is more to beauty than just physical attraction. But will Lindy return that love before the year is over?

"Beastly" features young, promising talent in Alex Pettyfer and Vanessa Hudgens. The two have great chemistry together and while the script may be lacking, Pettyfer and Hudgens deliver the lines well. A strong supporting performance from Neil Patrick Harris helps provide much needed comic relief for the film and with the film being only 90 minutes in length, it's pacing is very good.

While it isn't the best movie of the year, "Beastly"  is a worthy re-telling of the classic tale. Catch it tonight at Tango Theatres.
