Ron Howard's modern comedy about a man torn between his financial success and the livelihood of his best friend's marriage suffers from poor pacing and a less-than-stellar script -- but it sure is funny! Ronny (Vince Vaughn) and Nick (Kevin James) have been best friends since college, and now they are equal partners in an auto design company. They strike a lucrative business deal with General Motors and must now create an innovative electric engine in a very short timeframe. Nick doesn't work well with pressure and it is up to Ronny to keep his partner calm. But when Ronny catches Nick's wife Geneva (Winona Ryder) with another man, he is presented with a serious dilemma -- does he tell Nick about his wife and risk failure and financial ruin for his business, or should he keep quiet and investigate further?
This movie is funny. Kevin James and Vince Vaughn are just so likeable. Vaughn is a master at sarcasm and his delivery and demeanor just draw a smile to my face whenever he cracks a punch line. James is equally admirable in his role as the overworked and stressed Nick. Winona Ryder, Jennifer Connelly and Channing Tatum help round out what is a pretty high-level supporting cast.
The movie isn't without flaws though. The film tends to drag and many of the scenes, albeit funny, seem to be put into the film for no apparent reason. Nevertheless, "The Dilemma" is quite funny and isn't the worst movie out there.
2.5 out of 5 stars.
