Mike Cruz honored with medical awards
Guam - Lieutenant Governor Mike Cruz is one of four medical doctors awarded the prestigious American College of Surgeons' Surgical Humanitarian Award and Surgical Volunteerism Award. Cruz, a licensed physician, worked with the Ayuda Foundation, a non-profit organization he and former senator Carlotta Leon Guerrero co-founded in 1995 while serving in the Guam Army National Guard.
The Foundation worked on such projects such as providing medical supplies and care to various underserved islands in Micronesia. The lieutenant governor also served as a doctor in war countries such as Iraq, the Philippines, Cambodia and Afghanistan.
