Quiet skies, rough seas

A broad shear line sliding south from Japan is now stalling near the far Northern Marianas, setting up a stretch of drier weather across the CNMI and Guam. Easterly trade winds are taking over and are expected to persist through the week, keeping rain chances low for much of the region.
But don’t let the calm skies fool you. A large northwest swell—generated by strong winds behind that shear line—is already on the move toward the Marianas, Yap, and Palau. Some areas could see those long-period swells arrive as early as this afternoon, with others feeling the impact after sunset.
Drier conditions across Central Micronesia are expected to gradually expand westward later this week, though a couple of passing surface troughs could still bring brief rounds of showers or thunderstorms as they move through. Marine advisories remain in effect, and residents are urged to stay weather-aware.
