28 potential candidates for senator, four teams for Adelup so far

The ballots for the 2026 Guam elections are taking shape as more potential candidates toss in their hat in what’s expected to be a heated race. Over 40 candidate packets have been picked up as of Wednesday, according to the Guam Election Commission’s candidate packet log.
There are four gubernatorial teams. In the primary, democrats Lieutenant Governor Josh Tenorio and Senator Tina Muna Barnes will be going head-to-head with Senator Joe San Agustin and former senator Dwayne San Nicolas. And under the republican ticket for governor and lieutenant governor are vice-speaker Tony Ada and businessman EJ Calvo against Speaker Frank Blas, Jr. and former GCC president Dr. Mary Okada.
So far for the congressional delegate race, incumbent James Moylan will face off against former senator Mary Torres, both republicans.
And perhaps most notably, there are some 28 potential candidates vying for one of the 15 seats in the legislature, with majority of them newcomers. 15 of them are listed as republicans, 10 as democrats and 3 unidentified.
More than a handful of sitting senators have not picked up their packets yet. Many among the community keeping an eye on top votegetters senators Chris Barnett and Therese Terlaje, who have not ruled out making a bid for other seats.
The primary election is on August 1 and the general election is November 3.
