52-year-old motorcyclist killed in Dededo crash

Guam police are investigating a fatal auto-motorcycle crash that claimed the life of a 52-year-old man Saturday night, marking the island’s first traffic fatality of 2026.
The Guam Police Department identified the victim as Sonny Carl Laguana Vasques, the operator of the motorcycle. Police say his next of kin has been notified.
According to GPD, dispatch received a report at about 5:45 p.m. on January 24 of an injured man at a residence in Dededo. Medics responded and determined Vasques was pulseless and not breathing. He was transported to Guam Regional Medical City, where he was pronounced deceased at 9:22 p.m.
Police later confirmed the incident stemmed from an auto-motorcycle crash. The driver of the vehicle involved was interviewed by officers at the scene.
On Saturday night, police closed both northbound and southbound lanes of Route 28 near Chalan Hachon Astumbo as units conducted the investigation, causing traffic delays in the area.
The crash remains under investigation, and no additional details have been released.
In a statement, the Guam Police Department extended its condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Vasques.
