GPD, GFD & EPA respond to apparent chemical spill in Barrigada
Emergency officials responded to what appeared to be a chemical spill by the tri-intersection on Route 8 in Barrigada on Monday. The Guam Police Department, the Guam Fire Department and the Guam Environmental Protection Agency were on scene near the Shell gas station.
Lanes were partially closed for several hours midday Monday, causing traffic delays. GPD public information officer Norman Analista says officers were there to secure the scene and direct traffic.
Department of Public Works director Vince Arriola says, “Black Construction is the responsible party. GPD contacted Black Construction for cleanup. EPA was on site to do assessment of material that had gone in storm drain.”
Multiple drums were seen in front of the Shell station, with one of them labeled Specchem - a leading manufacturer that provides a range of construction chemicals.
In the meantime, GFD says they contained the scene and turned it over to EPA.
