2026 is officially here! Bringing the annual opportunity for a fresh start. Whether you embrace them or dismiss them, new year's resolutions are a powerful and persistent tradition. We hear from island residents on what they’re setting their sights on.

With the new year comes renewed hope—a time to turn the page, start fresh, and look ahead with intention. Whether they last all year or fade with time, New Year’s resolutions remain a beloved tradition—as people around the world aim to begin 2026 on the right foot. So, what goals are residents here at home setting for themselves?

For one couple, financial security and family happiness top the list. Rejina Quintanilla said, “Probably just save more money, be happier–make a happier home for our little family.” and Flutts Quintinilla added, “Workout more and save money.”

For others, like Dayna Castro and Megan Lolin, the New Year represents a chance to leave old habits behind and step into a better version of themselves. “Stop smoking," said Castro, with Lolin adding, “Be better next year than the old one.”

And for Maina resident Laua Wilhite, the priority for 2026 is simple—health above all else. It's a wish she hopes extends far beyond herself in the year ahead, saying, “Everybody stay healthy and be safe.”
