The Guam Education Board held an emergency meeting earlier this week to review minor and one material change recommended by legal counsel to the contract of incoming GDOE superintendent Dr. Judi Won Pat.

During the meeting, Guam DOE's legal counsel outlined several revisions to the contract language—including a clarification to Won Pat’s salary, changing the wording from “continue” to “shall commence.”

Moving expenses were also discussed, with Dr. Won Pat stating she felt the provision was irrelevant; it was subsequently removed from the contract.

A more significant correction involved the superintendent’s term. By statute, the position carries a four-year term, though the contract initially reflected five years. The language was amended to show an end date of December 2029.

Guam Education Board chairman Angel Sablan emphasized that while Dr. Won Pat’s start date is expected to be January 1, all required signatures on the contract must be secured beforehand.
