Guam Memorial Hospital Authority has identified the source of the smoke reported earlier today on the third floor telemetry unit.

Hospital engineers located a burnt motor in a pre-cooling unit. Repairs are already underway, with replacement parts on hand as part of the facility’s air-handling upgrade project.

Hospital officials confirm all patients and staff are safe. The situation was contained quickly thanks to the immediate response of unit staff and the engineering team.

The Guam Fire Department and Guam Power Authority continue assisting as assessments and recovery efforts continue.

Visitation remains temporarily suspended out of an abundance of caution. GMHA says visitation will resume once it is safe to do so.

Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
