Close to 200 toys delivered to Merizo Martyrs Memorial School
The Salvation Army made the trek to Merizo Martyrs Memorial School Monday morning, to drop off some holiday cheer. 193 students were gifted with toys which brought smiles to their faces.
4th grade teacher Jodie Nelson best described the reaction of her and her students. "This is the kind of stuff -hands on things that they can play with, that im super excited as a teacher, they were excited to come, they were surprised getting the gifts, very thankful very appreciative," she said.
The Salvation Army made a special delivery to the Home of the Dolphins with assistance of board members, Department of Parks and Recreation Police and their mascot, Chaise, helping pass out toys to the students.
"We're so grateful that chaise came over and made all the face of the kids glow and smile - Christmas is a season of giving and christmas is a season of joy, we're so grateful that DPR division let chaise come out and join the giving day today," said Nelson.
Salvation Army Guam Corps officer Major Eric Tumale said, "We're so grateful we are able to come and make the children happy today. We anticipate Christmas is for children and everyone here in this community deserves to be happy." Tumale reiterated that this was made possible by the tradition of giving to the Salvation Army's Toys and Joy program.
"Through contribution of our community partner, it was initiated by the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots, and of course KUAM CareForce who had a good turnout with Giving Tuesday, and other businesses and other schools who made a toy drive for us...we are so thankful that this year we are able to continue the tradition of giving," said Tumale.
And as the kids lined up to get their gifts and played with their new toys, Nelson simply said, "We appreciate all the help we can get around here. They're excited, it's our Pajama Day. Just keep giving, keep supporting."
