An off-duty Guam Police officer is now facing seven criminal charges — including vehicular homicide and driving impaired - after investigators say he fatally struck a cyclist in Tamuning, then tried to cover it up with a staged crash hours later.

Prosecutors allege 26-year-old Derrick Florenzo Atan hit 30-year-old John Carlos Daniel Yangco haas just after 2am on November 30… then fled. Surveillance video, witness statements, and damage to Atan’s orange Ford F-150 all tied him to the deadly collision.

Court documents say atan later reported a separate crash off Route 1 — but investigators determined it was staged, and did not match the damage from the fatal hit-and-run.

Atan also allegedly admitted to drinking that night. He was arrested Thursday and is being held on $20,000 cash bail. The case remains under active investigation.
