Weather system weakens but wet, windy week ahead

The National Weather Service Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor Invest 99W — a weak circulation southeast of Guam — which has now been downgraded to a sub-low by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center. That means the potential for this system to develop into a significant tropical cyclone has decreased.
However, forecasters caution that computer models still show a disturbance could form to the south of Guam by midweek, bringing increasing showers and winds to the Marianas as early as Tuesday.
Heavy rain and near gale-force winds remain possible, with the peak expected around Wednesday or Thursday. Between 3 to 7 inches of rain could fall across Guam and the CNMI from Tuesday through Thursday night, leading to minor flooding — and flash flooding in heavier downpours.
Residents are urged to clear drainage areas, avoid flood-prone
zones, and stay updated with the latest weather information. Drivers should use caution on wet roads and remember: turn around, don’t drown.
The week’s forecast calls for breezy and mostly cloudy conditions with scattered showers through Thursday. The Office of Homeland Security and Civil Defense continues to advise the public to remain alert for any new advisories in the coming days.
