New law secures lifesaving cancer support for Guam families

The people of Guam have gained a powerful new ally in the fight against cancer with the signing of Bill 1-38 (COR) into law, now officially Public Law 38-62.
Authored by Senator Telo T. Taitague, the new law guarantees that the Guam Cancer Trust Fund will receive no less than 15% of the Healthy Futures Fund or a minimum of $4 million annually, whichever is greater.
This landmark law ensures stable, sustainable funding for the nonprofit organizations, healthcare providers, and community programs that deliver lifesaving services to Guam residents battling cancer.
Through the GCTF, these funds will support cancer screening and prevention programs, treatment and medication assistance, travel support for off-island care, patient counseling, caregiver services, and education and outreach initiatives across the island.
“For too long, our people have borne the consequences of some of the highest cancer rates in the world. Public Law 38-62 is a promise to them that we will fight back with every tool we have, that we will support those battling cancer today, and that we will protect future generations from the pain and loss too many families have endured,” said Taitague.
Over the years, the Guam Cancer Trust Fund has supported a wide range of nonprofit organizations, healthcare providers, and community programs that are on the frontlines of Guam’s fight against cancer.
These partners deliver critical services including free and low-cost cancer screenings, patient navigation and treatment support, respite care, nutritional assistance, counseling, caregiver services, and education and outreach initiatives across our island.
