The Committee on Health and Veterans Affairs is asking for the public’s help to locate the surviving families of Guam’s fallen heroes, service members whose names appear on the “Medal of the Greatest Sacrifice,” or I Milåyan i Mås Takhilo’ na Sakrifisiu.

Established under Public Law 30-193 by the late Speaker Ben Pangelinan, the medal honors the ultimate sacrifice of Guam’s sons and daughters who gave their lives in service to the United States, a symbol of the island’s enduring gratitude and remembrance.

Recently, 56 medals were discovered at the Guam Congress Building, each engraved with the name of a fallen hero from World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Senator Sabrina Salas Matanane, Chairperson of the Committee on Health and Veterans Affairs, says these medals represent both loss and legacy, and they belong in the hands of the families who deserve them most.

Anyone who may know the surviving relatives of these service members is urged to contact Senator Matanane’s office at 671-989-2572, email office.senatorbri@guamlegislature.org, or message Together Bri Can on social media.
