Status town hall: Parkinson seeks public voice

Senator Will Parkinson is inviting the community to weigh-in on Guam’s political future at a town hall next Wednesday, September 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mongmong-Toto-Maite Community Center.
The discussion centers on Resolution 29-38 COR — backing a full examination of options, including statehood or enhanced autonomous status for Guam. Parkinson says although Guam has been an unincorporated US territory since 1898, many residents still lack the full political rights and representation enjoyed by other US citizens. With the Indo-Pacific front and center on the world stage, he argues decisions about Guam’s destiny must be made with—and by—its people.
Calling the issue both local and geopolitical, Parkinson notes Guam sits at the heart of US defense strategy, yet its people remain on the margins of American democracy. He says Guam deserves the rights, respect, and resources that come with full political equality.
Public input is welcome.
