US Coast Guard Myrtle Hazard crew completes successful operational period, support GIUE in Tinian

The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Myrtle Hazard wrapped up a three-week patrol of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands, reinforcing border security and strengthening ties with island communities.
From Aug. 11 to Sept. 1st, the crew logged more than 219 operational hours, enforcing federal laws, enhancing maritime awareness, and conducting vital readiness training.
The patrol included the cutter’s first anchoring in Rota, supply deliveries to Saipan, and support for an emergency response exercise in Tinian, saving more than $10,000 in travel costs.
Crew members also advanced training in gunnery, boarding operations, small boat handling, and watchstanding, skills critical to future missions under Operation Rematau, the Coast Guard’s regional security effort in Micronesia.
Commanding Officer Lieutenant Emma Saunders says these routine patrols are key to deterring threats like smuggling and illegal fishing while building partnerships that safeguard lives, resources, and economic opportunities across the Blue Pacific.
