A single car crash in Barrigada sent two people to the hospital before dawn. Just before 2:50 Sunday morning, officers responded to Route 16 near Route 8 by Happy Mart.

Police say an eastbound vehicle jumped the curb, rode onto the sidewalk and grass, then hit a metal pedestal. The car continued across Route 8, struck the raised median, crossed into the northbound lanes, hit another curb, mounted the sidewalk and slammed into the store’s wall before stopping.

An adult female—the driver—was taken to Guam Memorial Hospital and is in stable condition. An adult male passenger was transported to Guam Regional Medical City; he was unconscious and unresponsive and is in critical condition as of newstime.

The case remains open and has been forwarded to Highway Patrol. Investigators are working to determine what led up to the crash near the busy Route 16/Route 8 intersection.
