Ken Corp partners with Jeju Air to charter flights from Japan

Posted: Updated:

Citing the need for more airline capacity, the owner of a string of hotels here has chartered its own flights from Japan. Ken Corp has partnered with Korean low-cost carrier Jeju Air for the daily service. The company's managing director Milton Morinaga says they believe increasing the number of airline seats will help spur more Japanese visitors.

"As Ken Corporation being a stakeholder, the largest stakeholder in Guam, with all these hotels, and also all the other hotels, all suffering from not having enough Japanese coming to Guam, we decided to have more seats to Guam. By talking to Jeju Air, because they've been flying from Nagoya and also Osaka, they were positive about increasing their flight, so we decided to joint venture with them," he stated.

Morinaga says the passengers can choose any hotel package they wish, not necessarily just Ken Corp properties. He also credits GVB and the airport for providing incentives for the charter flights. They are using 185-seat Boeing 737 aircraft.

The agreement with Jeju is for one year, with an option to extend.
