Another roundtable for GFD planned

Guam - Public Safety Oversight Chair Senator Adolpho Palacios will attempt to hear from Acting Fire Chief John Salas again. He's planned another roundtable for March 14. Salas didn't attend Thursday's roundtable because he was out sick.

Palacios wanted to hear from Salas himself on the compensation of firefighters assigned to headquarters getting paid 106 hours plus 14 hours overtime - the same amount we should note as firefighters working in the field. "We want to find out whether he will continue despite the OPA's concern and despite the GFD's certifying officer's concern whether he wants to continue with that type of management style or he can be conservative," he told KUAM News.

As cited yesterday, the roundtable serves as a continued confirmation hearing for Salas. The acting chief's appointment expires on April 4 and he will have to step down if not confirmed during this month's legislative session. The next GFD roundtable will be held on march 14th at 6:30pm at the Legislature.
